Leaving PUBLICA

If your employment relationship is terminated and you are not yet entitled to retirement benefits, your insurance relationship with PUBLICA will come to an end. Your accrued pension assets will be paid out as vested benefits.

What happens when you leave PUBLICA?

Your employer informs PUBLICA that your employment relationship has been terminated. You do not need to contact us yourself.

Payment of vested benefits

If you are starting a new job, your new employer or your new pension fund will provide you with a QR invoice. You can forward this directly to your contact at PUBLICA, who will take care of the transfer and send you a departure statement.

If you do not yet have a new employer when you leave PUBLICA, your vested benefits are paid into a special bank account or insurance policy. The transfer can be divided between a maximum of two payment addresses.

Also worth knowing

If you move to an EU member state, Iceland or Norway, you can only receive cash payment of your vested benefits in the amount of the minimum pension under the Occupational Pensions Act if you can demonstrate that you are not subject to mandatory state retirement, surviving dependants’ and disability insurance in the country concerned. If you are not able to do this, only the portion of your vested benefits that exceeds the statutory minimum (non-compulsory component) can be paid out in cash. The rest must be transferred to an account in your name at a vested benefits institution in Switzerland. It may not be transferred to a foreign social insurance scheme. You can find this amount on your pension certificate or ask your contact at PUBLICA.
