Mario Bertschi becomes Head of Pensions at PUBLICA

Mario Bertschi has been appointed Head of Pensions and a member of PUBLICA’s Executive Board with effect from 1 November 2025. He takes over from Patrick Bonadei, who is leaving PUBLICA at the end of October 2025. Mario Bertschi, a Master of Law degree holder and qualified lawyer, has an in-depth knowledge of occupational pensions and is currently Head of Legal at PUBLICA.

Over approximately three years as Head of Legal at PUBLICA, Mario Bertschi has gained extensive experience of the relevant issues and interfaces, and has become a key sparring partner for the Executive Board, the Actuarial Policy and Law Committee and the entire Board of Directors.

Mario Bertschi obtained a Master of Law degree from the University of Fribourg. He is a qualified lawyer and has attended a range of further training courses on the legal aspects of occupational pensions, as well as on data protection and leadership. Prior to joining PUBLICA, he was Deputy Head of Legal and Compliance and Data Protection Officer at the Substitute Occupational Benefit Institution.

Markus Zaugg, acting Director of PUBLICA, emphasises: “With Mario Bertschi, we are prioritising continuity. The Executive Board looks forward to working even more closely with Mario.” The search for a new Head of Legal is already under way.
